A Really Incredible and Refreshing Bourbon Honey Lemon Rosemary Cocktail
Serves: 1Ingredients:
4 sprigs Rosemary
1oz lemon juice
2oz bourbon
1.5oz honey syrup – see notes
1oz soda water
Notes:How to make honey syrup: you can do either 1:1 honey to water ratio, but I did 2:1 ratio of honey to water ratio because I think it tastes better in this drink. If you prefer a more even taste, stick with 1:1. Warm up the water and honey in a pot until fully dissolved into each other and in liquid form. Let it cool for a minute or two before adding to cocktail.Alternative to muddler: end of wooden spoon or utensil, mortar and pestle, rolling pin, end of ladle, anything that will smash
Instructions:
1. First, make your honey syrup and set it aside to cool for a few minutes.
2. In a glass (pint glass preferred), put 3 sprigs rosemary and 1oz lemon juice. With a muddler or alternative (see notes), muddle the rosemary about 15-20 times without pressing down too hard. Once done, pour into a shaker.
3. Add 2oz Bourbon (we usually use Basil Hayden’s and they have an entire list of their own cocktails– yum) and 1.5oz honey syrup to shaker. Add ice and shake for about 10-15 seconds.
4. Fill a cocktail glass with ice and pour the content of the shaker into the glass. Top with 1oz soda water, lemon slice, and a sprig of rosemary.
5. LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE!!!!!
In a pretty fantastic mood today! Want to know why? Because I leave for California in the morning! My grandma is turning 80 on the 19th so my mom and I thought it would be fun to fly out to L.A. and take a three generation road trip up Highway 1 to San Francisco. I seriously could not be more excited for this adventure and my grandma is the funniest person I know so she’ll be the perfect road trip buddy. The only thing I’m not looking forward to is packing.
I’m absolutely hopeless when it comes to packing, especially for a big trip like this one. I over pack like nobody’s business and typically have to check, recheck, write a list, check it twice (see what I did there) and still end up not bringing something I need/wanted. So when it came to packing for this trip I decided to have a little cocktail before hand. I figured this could either relax me or I’ll get to San Francisco in December and pull out bikinis and high waisted shorts. Either way I needed a pick me up in the form of a stiff drink.
In my effort to bring that comforting winter feeling to my deranged packing mind, I crafted up this gorgeous Honey Winter Bourbon Cocktail with Honey Sage Syrup. The citrus from the orange and the sweet and earthiness from the honey sage syrup pair perfectly with Wild Turkey Bourbon. While this started as a quick cocktail just for me, it of course turned into an hour of crafting and serving cocktails to my entire family. A little tip for hosting, I always serve whiskey or bourbon drinks in my favorite Schott Zwiesel Old Fashioned Glasses. For me, the look of a drink, even just simple and clean in a heavy bottomed whiskey glass is a big priority. Serve these next to the bottle (showing your guests the star ingredient) and an olive wood honey dipper and you’re sure to impress any crowd. So if you have to pack or wanting to impress your guests, whip up this cocktail and relax.
